2/5 READ: Engelbart/English, "A Research Center for Augmenting Human Intellect"This is a featured page

easier to understand conceptual ideas once they are actually realized.

Educational feedback
self esteem, grades, knowledge, learned hopefulness (capability infrastructure)

self efficacy

Recursion
the project calls the project up
(like java code- recursion functions call upon themselves)

ought to build capability structure
build in capability to build capability

The project
iterative development- trial and error

Philip's notes:

ARC - Augmentation Research Center (with Douglas Engelbart)

PARC - Palo Alto Research Center (by Xerox, with Alan Kaye)

Iterative development - Testing by doing, making gradual adjustments and improvements

Recursion - Happens in a computer program when, at some point in the program, the program calls itself up.

Self Efficacy - The idea that one's ability to learn is based on one's ability to believe one is capable of learning. (An acquired sense of hopelessness that prevents one from progressing prevents efficacy) Every time you do good work makes you feel capable of doing good work - a loop which leads to gradual improvement.

Capability Infrustructure - The ability to build on an ability; grows via recursion.
