"Primary paradox of SL is that a person operates with a real meaning in an alienated situation" - flips Vyotsky.
"From the point of view of development, creating an imaginary situation can be regarded as a means of developing abstract thought". Envci
Amalgamation exercise:
1. Couldn't stop with three. Environment not conducive to learning. Lighting, ambient noise, low ceilings: thwarts learning. Space not matching people.
2. See group 1. Ambient sound, lighting, green background--something off about that green--not-quite-right
3. Partly-eaten apple, sound of conversation, video projection: metaphor of man's first self-knowledge (Garden of Eden) and idea of conversation as Babel, with projector as divine light/burning bush. Old Testament.
4. Ambient noise, greenness of space, supporting structure: steerage of a ship
5. Humming AC, buzzing lights, rolled up sleeves/academics at play: metaphor is buzzing of ideas as they come into the light, breathing life into creativity.
6. Chatter of typing, chemical electronic smell (electronics? carpet?), burgundy chairs/grey walls: cartoon of what that would look like--a virtualization of the environment.
7. NORAD Bunker: grey paint, columns of concrete, noise: ship, command and control center.
8. Humming, clicking, fluorescent lighting: familiar in other settings, but take on new shapes based on individual experiences
9. Ambient noise, condensation of water, cool air from compressor: sitting in a cell or back on the riverwalk--a metaphorical choice.
