Gloria's Class Notes:
-"Essays for the Left Hand" "Act of Discovery"
-Expository and hypothetical mode
-W3 is a hypothetical creation to set up connections that, at the time, was almost impossible to imagine.
-Pg 792 "The World-Wide Web (W3) was developed to be a pool of human knowledge . . . to share their ideas and all aspects of a common project." hypothetical mode
-If you have an educated curiosity about the web, you can take advantage of the 'chaos' of the web.
Shelby's Class Notes:
Internet is pool of human knowledge that enables us to work together; Berners-Lee is working in hypothetical mode, didn't figure it all out before he started working on it.
What else could it have been?
Could have been closed system, just for scholars, universities etc.
Benefits: monitored, closed system, limit number of people, regulate, organize, and catagorize
Internet is public domain, with no central server
The Web always gives you more than you ask for! (Both a good and bad thing)
Some of the results are irrelevant, but can also give you more options than you are aware of. Can help you make connections.
The beauty of the internet is that if two unrelated sites find a relationship, they can smoothly and easily merge their information.
